Is there a solution, or a problem with the order of installation of the drivers? What name does the driver have (the HD one) Is it IDT 92HDxxx HD Audio Driver? I know in some laptops especially like the Sony Vaios, you have to install a 'patch' first which then initiates two driver installs - one for the modem and another for the sound Not sure if Dell or more to the point, your model, is like that Also what happens when that prompt comes up and you point it to the drivers (Wherever they are extracted)? Does it install or come up with an error along the lines of cannot find it? Again, some drivers are fussy - like to be installed via a setup.exe, others like to only be pointed physically to where they are extracted Hopefully this gives youa bit to go on and once you reply, I can look into this further.
It didn't even show up in Win7 device manager. I tried all the updates & removing (and subsequently reinstalling) the ALPS driver but all to no avail. I'd given up on it & resigned myself to the fact that I'd need to get the laptop or at least the touchpad replaced under warranty. That was until today. I needed serial port connectivity so I connected to a Dell docking station & hey presto the bloody thing started working again?!?! It's still working after removing from the docking station and it's smoother & more responsive than ever. I know it's early days, but fingers crossed!

As is typical in Vista, there’s a way to tweak what you want, but it involves a couple of steps First off, choose Control Panels off the START (uh, Vista logo) menu on the lower left of your computer screen: You’ll now see the many, many different ways you can customize your Vista experience. You want “Mouse” settings (why there’s no “Mouse / Touchpad” or similar I don’t fully understand, just as it’s puzzling that there are Tablet options when my laptop isn’t a tablet and doesn’t support that functionality. That’s another story, though). You’ll be dropped here: Not really what you want, but we’re getting there. Click on “Dell Touchpad” on the top left and you’ll find that this is all just an elaborate path to get to the special Dell trackpad/touchpad control app: Click on the huge arrow icon and you’ll launch a separate application supplied by Dell that lets you gain complete control over the touchpad: Almost there. Now click on “Touchpad Settings”. See where it shows “Taps” “Tap to Click”?

Am I the only one having this problem? Feb 13, 2009 My laptop (Latitude D620) is driving me.How do I turn off the touchpad and disable the top row (between touchpad and spacebar) of mouse buttons? When ever I'm in Word, or composing an email, the cursor moves up into previously typed text and starts typing from there instead of where I was at. I suspect it is the touchpad or the 'mouse' buttons between the touchpad and the space bar. On a ThinkPad there was way to turn off the touchpad, but still leave the joystick/pointer enabled. But I need to also disable the top row of mouse buttons. In other words what I want is a set up where the joystick/pointer works and the bottom row (below the touchpad) of mouse buttons works, but not the touch pad itself, or the top row of buttons. It sounds funny, but it has become a severe productivity issue. The cursor jumping has happened 7 times just in this one email!!
